The Annual Conflict list

The beginning of the year brings the annual list of conflicts to watch out for. This list isn’t about outright prediction so much as the hot spots one needs to be aware of. Sometimes things come to a rolling boil, much like they did in Israel, which I spoke of last February. Other times they remain as local or regional tensions, such was the case with Northern Ireland last year.

Things on the international stage tend to move slow… that is until they don’t — and then you spend your time wishing things would slow back down again. Such is not the case these days.

We are seeing quite a few serious regional conflicts sprout up around the globe because we are near the end of an international order. The United States has kept its fingers on the scales, preventing all of these conflicts for decades. Now that the world does not feel the U.S. is as strong as it once was, or perhaps not as interested in international order as it once was — we will continue to see such conflicts sprout up until a new status quo, or new international order is achieved.

In no order of importance, my 2024 list is as follows:

A widening Israeli War
